Course #1: CERTA (Certified Roofing Torch Applicator)
Presented by Malarkey Roofing Products

Maximum 20 Participants
The CERTA training program is ideal for contractors whose work involves torch applications. The full-day (8 hr.) program trains experienced roof system installers on the safe use of roofing torches used to apply polymer-modified bitumen roofing products. CERTA training shows how proper roof system configuration design and application techniques can result in fire-safe installations.  The class includes 4 hours of classroom training, including a final exam, followed by 4 hours of hands-on training, including building three 4’ x 8’ mock up decks.

Course #3: Green Roof Systems
Presented by Ron Schwenger, Architek
This presentation on green roof systems will include a demonstration of how a vegetative roof system is built and integrates with the roof. The objective is to enable RCAC members to bid on roofing projects with green roof systems included.

Course #4: Roofing Safety
Presented by Cal/OSHA
Learn about fall protection, pneumatic nailers, and eye
protection. This class is a must for roofing workers of all experience
and skill levels.

Course #5: Heat Illness
Presented by Cal/OSHA
What are the rules for protecting employees from heat? How can you spot the symptoms of heal illness and help save a co-worker’s life?
Learn all of this and more in this important presentation.

Course #6: Ladder Safety
There are hundreds killed and more than 100,000 injured per year using ladders.  Employees will learn to choose the right ladder, look at and inspect the ladder, insure a safe ladder setup, move safely with and on the ladder, and how to be a ladder safety expert.

Course #7: Safe Driving Procedures for Roofing Employees
This course provides attendees with the tools necessary to improve driving safety, including best practices.  The class will include information from NETS (Network of Employers for Traffic Safety, and is intended for drivers of company vehicles as well as personal vehicles.

Course #8: Working Safely Around Skylights and Roof Openings
Skylights and roof openings are a very common hazard on rooftops, and too often  their danger is underestimated.  But, protecting employees around these hazards can be managed with the right preparation and knowledge.

Course #9: Personal Protective Equipment
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is an essential part of any safety program, but proper utilization of PPE is essential to preventing injuries on the job site. In this class, learn and understand the types of PPE, the basics of conducting a "hazard assessment" of the workplace, how to select appropriate PPE for a variety of circumstances, and understand what kind of training is needed in the proper use and care of PPE.

Course #10: Hand Tool Safety
The course will identify various types of hand and power tools, and their potential hazards. It will also identify ways to prevent worker injury through proper use of the tools and through the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.

All attendees will be provided with a certificate of completion, and employers will receive a record of attending employees.

HOW DOES THE PROMOTION WORK?

If this percentage is not met, the standard contractor membership rate of $375 will be assessed.
